Initial Consultation

Meet with Occupational Therapists, their clients, and families, to perform a Standard Checklist of Needs which will assess whether:
The home has an accessible route and safe egress into and out of the home
The home entry, garage, or exit can incorporate greater accessibility and safety
Improved access can be added to areas of the home having more than one level, staircase or sunken areas that are difficult and may be inaccessible to user.
The home has smooth surfaces when entering or exiting and/or throughout the home environment – and can surfaces/flooring be changed to increase safety
The home has the capacity to increase accessibility within the bathroom and bedroom
The home requires a remote Security and Intercom System
The doors need to be widened to accommodate a mobility aid

 

 
The home requires improvements for health and safety – safe roof, windows, home alert or alarm system, improved lighting for interior and exterior, smoke detectors, safer electrical wiring & plumbing upgrades
The home requires assistive technology or specialty products and devices for increased access and for improved mobility, lifting, transferring and getting up and down a stair case
The home has an accessible kitchen, counter, cabinets and appliances and will the kitchen require these changes for improved access
The home requires an emergency back-up generator
The home requires an additional accessible bedroom or bathroom and can a room addition be added
